Sunday afternoon after Q got up from rest time, she asked if she could go play in the rain. I said sure but she had to play in the backyard as she was only wearing a t-shirt and panties. So she goes downstairs and I hear the door slam. After a few minutes, I go check to make sure she isn't getting struck by lightning or, far worse, getting dirty! I look in the backyard but she isn't out there. My heart starts beating a little faster, and I finally notice her playing on the front porch. So I go outside and tell her that I said she couldn't play in the front and she said she didn't understand and happily went to the backyard to continue playing. Just a few minutes after that, my doorbell rings. A police officer is standing outside my house! I am freaking out thinking that Q might have been stolen or something horrible has happened to someone. Who knows what might go wrong but I was praying he was just soliciting funds for the local pd!
He says, "Did you just have a little girl playing in your front yard with a t-shirt and panties on?"
I said, "Yes, but she was supposed to be in the backyard. As soon as I noticed she was in the front, I made her go into the backyard."
He said, "A "concerned" neighbor called the police department to report your daughter playing in her panties in the front yard."
I am almost too stunned to speak and say something stupid like, "Is it illegal to play in your own front yard in your panties?" Of course he said no and I'm sure I sounded like a total idiot. Then he went on to imply that the neighbor might need to mind their own business and sort of looked irritated that he had been called out on this rainy day to investigate a panty playing toddler!
I am just speechless in my irritation with this neighbor. I mean I guess I can see where it is nice to look out for a neighbor but why didn't they come to my door and say hey, did you know your daughter is playing outside or something. Was calling the cops really the first plan of action in a situation like this? I have no idea who this neighbor is but I'm going to do my best to find out. I am on the homeowner's board so I hope to be able to use my official status to track this nosey neighbor down!
